Book Review -- Nomad kind of Love

Nomad Kind of Love

This is the second book of the Prairie Devils MC Series I've read. This book focuses on The Nomads chapter of the Prairie Devils MC, their hardened President, Aaron 'Maverick' Strum and the girl he rescues from trouble, June Daniels.

The book begins with June and her twin sister Chloe witnessing the murder of their father at the hand of his own MC, The Grizzlies. Instead of wiping out the entire family, The Grizzlies kill the father, inject their mother with drugs and essentially kidnap the two girls.

Fast forward about a year later, and June is forcibly working as a stripper in a Grizzly-owned strip joint. She does whatever the Grizzlies tell her to do, as a way to appease them and hopefully keep from being on the receiving end of one of their beatings, or possibly worse.

One night, she devises a plan for Chloe and herself to escape The Grizzlies, but when June put the plan into action, Chloe draws attention to them by dawdling and looking at a picture of the family. When June tries to get Chloe out of the clubhouse, Chloe has a meltdown, which alerts the members. It results in the members sexually attacking Chloe and June passing out.

Around this time, Throttle, the President of the Prairie Devils (who we met in Book One -- Outlaw Kind of Love) sends Maverick into Grizzly territory to open a chapter there. Upon casing the Grizzly strip club, he takes June as 'collateral' to ensure that the Nomads/Prairie Devils aren't taken out.

After this, it turns into your typical MC story... Hardened biker turns to a softie for a girl and becomes ruthless when he feels what is his is threatened.

Not to say that this is a bad concept. I actually think more men should have this quality. Maybe not to the level that MC members take it, but I digress...

Overall, I liked this book. I'm relatively new to the MC genre of books, so I'm not too sure if Nicole is 'being true' to the MC way of life. But this is fiction, and what's fiction without a little fantasy?

However, once again, I felt her portrayals of Maverick 'claiming' June was rushed and barely touched on. I would LOVE to see Nicole go more in-depth with the 'claiming' process. I can't believe that the only time an 'old lady' is claimed is right before a huge battle.

I like Nicole's writing style and I look forward to reading more work by her.

Nomad Kind of Love can be read as a standalone novel, although you will enjoy it more if you have read the first book in the series, Outlaw Kind of Love. (NOOK and iBooks versions are available by clicking their respective links)

Nomad Kind of Love can be purchased from the following retailers
Barnes & Noble/NOOK

If you are a fan of biker romance/MC genre books, you will truly enjoy this book.

Book Review - PHENOMENAL X

Have you ever read a book SO intense, so fierce that when you finish it, you stare at your Kindle and think, 'What do I do with my life now?'

PHENOMENAL X was the first book I've ever experienced this with.

I am a wrestling fan you can pretty much say by birth... 32 years and counting. So I was elated to get my hands on this book.

I just never expected to fall as hard as I did for the book and the characters.

In PHENOMENAL X, we meet Anna Cortez, good-girl-tired-of-Daddy's-thumb, who is running away from the only life she has ever known. On a flight to Detroit, she meets Xavier Cold, one of the hottest wrestling stars in the world...

Except she doesn't have the foggiest idea who he is.

Xavier Cold is the wrestling world's 'Bad Boy' -- Commanding, intimidating, fearless. But, you can see, underneath the exterior he shows the world, he has a heart of gold.

Michelle nailed the little nuances of being a wrestling star PERFECTLY. The constant fighting to stay 'on top,' the friendships behind the scenes, the betrayals and lies to usurp one another for the coveted spot.

I did love how she painted Deena as the typical 'ring rat...' using her assets to get what she wanted. For those that DO watch wrestling, to me, Deena came off an one of The Bella Twins... more Nikki than Brie. Rex came off as the A$$hole of the company... the cutthroat bastard who will stop at nothing to get his way. He also came off very slimy and a typical womanizer. For some reason, I was picturing Batista with The Miz's persona as Rex.

Xavier's 'inspiration' is no secret if you watch wrestling... Roman Reigns. So, it cracked me up when Xavier's best friend was named 'Brian Rollins.'

As I said before, I fell in complete and total LOVE with this book. I was rooting for Anna to make that breakthrough with Xavier over his past, only to get pissed off when Xavier slammed the door on it.

When Xavier would have a flashback, I wanted to pull him into my arms and hold onto him tightly, running my hand over his hair until the nightmare subsided.

Only negative thing I have to say about the book is how Michelle ended it... I know there will be a 2nd book to the series (or at least there better be!!!), but to end with Xavier getting into some SERIOUS hot water made me sad and angry.

If you are going to buy just ONE book this year, you HAVE to make it PHENOMENAL X. You will NOT be sorry.

PHENOMENAL X is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble & Kobo... Sorry, Itunes folks, You're not going to get this book in iTunes/iBooks format!

WOULD RECOMMEND: Yes, absolutely... can't recommend it enough!!!

Book Review - DAMAGED

This was a fun read. A bit slow at first, but it picks up steam quick.

It starts with Tara being bullied in Kindergarten and the only solace she finds is with Darren Jones. who becomes her best friend very quickly.

As they grow, it's painfully obvious that Darren is in love with Tara, but Tara doesn't see it and leaves town, shutting Darren out, along with everyone else that cared for her.

Fast forward a few years and Tara is now on her own, living with a room mate and dating Lawrence, a doctor. This is about the time she realizes Darren is now a famous author. As time goes on, She receives a phone call, telling her that her parents have died in a car accident and she needs to tie up their loose ends. She tells Lawrence she will deal with it herself and leaves for her hometown.

As she is dealing with her parents' arrangements, Darren is helping her with anything she wants or needs. They end up sleeping together and then Tara finds herself in a love triangle with her childhood best friend and the boyfriend from her new life.

However, the decision is made much easier when a secret Lawrence has been hiding comes to light. HEA abounds.

I did have some minor annoyances with the book. The author either was aiming to have Tara come off as very stupid or as extremely wishy-washy. All the elements of Darren being in love with Tara were there, and BLINDINGLY obvious, but yet Tara was missing them completely.

Lawrence was ANOTHER annoyance I had. After telling Tara throughout their entire relationship he did not want to get married again, he proposes after Tara returns from her parents' house, where Lawrence caught Darren helping Tara. To me, that just SCREAMED 'Jerk' and selfishness. I was mentally doing the Cabbage Patch when the secret was revealed.

Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and would highly recommend it.

Very enjoyable book, But a bit frustrating at times with the obviousness of emotions.

TEASER: Phenomenal X

TEASER: Phenomenal X
by Michelle A. Valentine

Quinn gasps, making a big show of being shocked before nudging Aunt Dee’s arm again. “He’s hot, isn’t he? I know that look.”
I raise my eyebrows. “What look?”
She smirks. “The one that says I-just-met-a-really-hot-rich-man-that-totally-wants-to-jump-my-bones-and-I-just-might-let-him. Trust me, Anna, I’ve had that look a few times myself.” She laughs. “So tell me all about him.”
“Quinn, I don’t really know him,” I say.
“You spent four hours next to the man chatting. That’s longer than most first dates, so spill, sister.”
I laugh at her forwardness. “I hate to disappoint you, but I slept most of the way.”
She twists her lips. “You must be one hell of a sleeper to get a man that sprung without much conversation. Come on, Anna. At least tell me his name.”
I lick my lips as his face pops into my mind. “Xavier.”
“Oh, rawr. That’s a definite hot guy name. Tell me more. What’s he look like? Details, girl. De-tails.”
I chew on my bottom lip. “He’s really tall, has really broad shoulders, tattoos and he’s sort of…”
“Oh my God, what? The suspense is killing me,” Quinn whines.
“He’s famous,” I blurt out.
Quinn’s eyes widen. “Who is he? If you say Xavier is Ryan Reynolds’ real name I will wrestle you for his phone number.”
I chuckle. “No, it’s not Ryan Reynolds. I would’ve probably freaked if I sat by a celebrity I actually recognized.”
She frowns. “So he’s not super famous, just a little famous?”
I shake my head. “Oh no, he’s popular. I’m just not sure what for. He signed autographs the entire flight.”
She tilts her head to the side and her eyes drift up toward the ceiling. “Hmm. I don’t know anyone famous by the name Xavier and I study the tabloids proficiently, so he must be known by something else.”
“Does Phenomenal X ring a bell?”
“Ring it? It fucking smashes it! I can’t believe you didn’t know who he was! He’s only the hottest man in wrestling, and the newest playboy to grace the cover of all the magazines.” She tsks. “You really are the most sheltered human on the planet. This needs to be rectified immediately.”
“And how do you plan on making me worldlier?” I tease.
“Easy.” She grins and the wicked twinkle in her eye scares me a bit. “You’re going to start by sleeping with a known bad-boy.”
I shake my head. “Oh, no. No way, Quinn. I don’t do things like that.”

I am SO excited for this book! Pre-order links below

Book Review - WICKED GAMES

Wicked Games

I don't even watch many 'reality' shows... Big Brother and WWE's Total Divas being the only two. So, I wasn't expecting much when I started reading this.

I was pleasantly surprised.

We have Abby, a magazine journalist, picked to compete on Endurance Island, which is the equivalent of Big Brother meets Survivor. Her competing is not voluntary, as she is chosen to gather behind-the-scenes info and write an tell-all book on her experience.

Without giving away the whole book, she falls in love with another contestant, Dean, but enter the lies, deception and backstabbing betrayals that accompany all reality competition shows and the love seems to falter.

Dean and Abby do get their HEA at the end of this book.

This book is Book 1 of the Games series by Ms. Clare/Ms. Myles, and has no bearing on the other titles in the series. It is a standalone title.

As I said, I had low expectations going into this book, as I usually steer clear of many reality shows/series. But this had me hooked from Chapter 2 and I finished it in roughly one day.

As long as a disabled person can read above a 3rd grade level and can operate a reading device/app, They will have no trouble using this.

Wicked Games is available from AmazonBarnes & NobleAppleKoboSmashwords and All Romance eBooks for FREE.

Very fun and quick read... especially enjoyable if you are into reality shows.

BOOK REVIEW: Illusion by Ashley Beale

Let me preface this by saying this review will be spoiler-free for those who have not read it.

Where to begin? I'll admit, it took my QUITE a few chapters to get into the novel. Just coming off my own personal '31 Days of Christmas' book challenge, I wasn't ready to such a 'heavy' read as Illusion.

I'd say about 40% through the book is when I started really getting into the book, and at about 50% is when it hit me how predictable the plot was going... not to say that predictability is a bad thing. What got me was how Ashley covered the hindsight 'obvious clues' so well, you don't realize she's giving you clues. The old adage 'Right under your nose' fits well here.

I do have to say that I didn't expect the HEA to be with who it was, but I was pleased nonetheless. I do hope that there will be another installment of Zoey and Brice, because I would like to know what happens with these two.

I could feel how Zoey felt through the book, with her thoughts and own self-reflections, since I have felt the same way LOTS of times during my life. I know how it feels to have Zoey's beliefs about getting too close to people & what happens when you do.

My favorite part of the book... wasn't even in the story at all. Ashley speaks directly to the reader at the end of the novel, urging them to get help if they are going through the topics the novel discussed. I found that to be touching, and it shows Ashley honestly cares about her readers and wants to make sure they are okay.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars, and would HIGHLY recommend this book.

Very enjoyable book, but may be trigger-y for those dealing with PTSD and/or losing loved ones.

First post...

The other day, I was talking to my friend and fellow book lover, Krystal, and I made the comment...
I might have to set up another blog for the book reviews. I feel like book reviews take away from the theme of Disabled Diva Reviews, because reading one book doesn't really differ from reading another! LOL
So, I bring Becky's Book Bytes to life!

What to expect here:
Book reviews, cover reveals, Author notes (from me... Yes, I'm also an aspiring author)... not exactly sure what else yet.

I'll be moving some more entries over later tonight!
